Janaagraha is a non-profit organisation based in Bangalore, India. It works with citizens and the government to improve the quality of life in Indian cities and towns. The term 'quality of life' as defined by Janaagraha has two distinct and inter-related aspects. The first 'quality of urban infrastructure and services' - the quality of urban of amenities, i.e., roads, drains, traffic, transport, water supply, etc. The second aspect is the 'quality of citizenship' - the role that urban residents play by participating in civic issues. Founded in 2001 by Ramesh Ramanathan and Swati Ramanathan, Janaagraha started as a movement to enable citizen participation in public governance. It has now evolved into a robust institution for Citizenship and Democracy. Janaagraha envisions Urban India as the flywheel for India’s social, economic and political transformation.
Two dynamic ladies, one wheel chair bound, struck by paraplegia at the age of 16 years, namely Miss Naseema Hurzuk and the other one on crutches due to polio, namely Mrs. Rajani (Karkare) Deshpande along with like minded people like Mr. Manohar Deshbhratar undertook a crusade in 1984 for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. The organization has provided assistance to over 17,410 persons with disabilities to the tune of Rs. 708.19 Lacs so far and also created infrastructures such as Hostels, Schools, Rehabilitation & Training Centres etc., costing Rs. 714.16 Lacs (figures upto 31st March 2010) to ensure more effective and on-going services.
Hospice for Advanced Stage Cancer Patients Caring for an advanced stage cancer patient needs understanding, a certain degree of medical skill, and most importantly, compassion and psychological support. There may be need for a medication adjustment, for more skilled care, or for a brief respite for the primary care giver. Those are the times patients and families need the support offered by Karunashraya, the Bangalore Hospice Trust. Karunashraya provides thoughtful touches and compassionate care. Here, patients continue to receive medical attention in warm and comfortable surroundings. HippoCampus is a project of the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education (MITE). The goal of HippoCampus is to provide high-quality, multimedia content on general education subjects to high school and college students free of charge. HippoCampus was designed as part of Open Education Resources (OER), a worldwide effort to improve access to quality education for everyone. HippoCampus content has been developed by some of the finest colleges and universities in the world and contributed to the National Repository of Online Courses (NROC), another MITE project. NROC makes editorial and engineering investment in the content to prepare it for distribution by HippoCampus. Both HippoCampus and NROC are supported by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
The Pratibha Poshak project was started in 2000 at Raichur. Since then, its coverage has extended across Karnataka. In Bangalore alone, the program assisted over 500 students in 2009-10. Pratibha Poshak provides academic support like coaching for entrance examinations, career counseling etc. and financial help like hostel fees, tuition fees, transportation expenses, stationery and a lot more.

The Heart and Soul Foundation runs a project called PUNARVASAN - in technical partnership with The Spastics Society of Karnataka and provision Asia. Punarvasan (Rehabilitation when translated in English) is an endeavour of the Heart and Soul Foundation to enable Community Based Rehabilitation. To start with, the center focuses on children with disabilities in around the urban slums of Bangalore. The center strives to provide all therapies/facilities like Aids and appliances, medical assessment,early intervention, ADL training, special education, vocational training, speech and language therapy under one roof for the holistic development of the disabled child. Since the centre is located in the child's community it involves the family and sensitizes the community to their needs.
